The Driving Force

The Driving Force

A Poem by Sloane Holt

In this world of hustle and bustle,
There's a universal dream:
We all want to be successful;
A constant recurring theme.

We flirt with outstanding,
But fall in love with something average.
We wish for center stage,
But not everyone can have it.

We're told we've failed,
That we need to be more,
So we find ourselves knocking
On a locked and bolted door.

It's a hot and sweaty race
For which we all thirst,
Yet satisfaction doesn't come,
Even if we place first.

We wonder why we stand alone
Until we slowly look around
Then we realize as we struggled up,
We pushed all others to the ground.

Awareness grips us tight
Like withdrawal for a fiend.
We must ask ourselves one question:
What does "success" really mean?

About
I love God, music, writing, and all sorts of art. I'm kind of a morbid thinker and some of my posts might reflect that, just a heads up. I know I'm a white girl, but I still love to rap, odd but true.. more..
