Wonder of Age

Wonder of Age

Gray
No
White,
maybe, silver
I hope

Future possibilities
my black mane
streaked silver
Followed by deepening &
folding skin
Motion, slowed down
A signs of the times
well, my time
Ticking clock
My biological clock
Analog, of course
Common changes,
most avoid and disguise
Yet, each passing minute
of my clock
leaves me awe-struck

What a life-affirming poem. Embracing our inevitability is important rather than trying to run from it. It will always catch up.

I love the way the poem embraces the physical process of life. We often think of aging in negative terms but each new stage can be just as full of wonder as the last. We have a lot of lessons to build on in the later years and understanding. That alone can enrich life so much. I’m really glad I read this tonight.
