always watching

always watching

A Poem by slfisher89
"

mother's love that surpasses life

"

There’s my beautiful girl;

Now a woman

taking

measured

cautious

steps

down the aisle to your future.

Loose golden honey caramel curls

cascade down your back.

A deep blue rose pinned in your hair.

Your fitted cream white dress

sways in the wind.

Such a beautiful bride.

Brimming with love; beaming with pride

in the background; where I’ve always been.

Memories wash over me like light drizzle.

Hazy image of cradling you;

once you come into the world.

Wishing the moment would last.

Sensing your terror and uncertainty

on your first day of kindergarten.

Soothing your frantic energy over your first crush at 10.

Surrounding you with comfort on your first heartbreak at 13.

It got better

I saw to it.

Almost down the aisle;

now your father giving you away.

I move closer.

In your darkest hour; I drew you and your husband to each other.

Knowing each would heal the other.

You’re hold each other’s hands; saying vows.

You smile; a smile as big as all outdoors.

He wipes a single tear from your eye.

I’m thankful your memory of me;

never faded.

Each year since you were 1;

a single blue rose left on my headstone

32; I’ve kept count.

Even now you caress the rose in your hair;

feeling I’m there.

Don’t worry

Never fear

I am always with you.

oh my goodness ... sucked me right in and broke my heart in the closing .. well done!!! creative and unique perspective says i! i especially like the cautious metered steps ... full impact the way you use space and line .. and these lines:
"It got better
I saw to it." hit hard .. as parents we do all we can to "see to it" ... the full impact not evident until I reached your closing lines ... everyone can use a little extra help from heaven eh!? great read for me .. glad we have met!
