Idolatry

Idolatry

A Poem by Sleiman Azizi
"

This is another poem spoken by the character Alciabades in the Noh play that I am working on.

"
Mortal libations
Man's silent lamentation
A heifer's altar
The gods demand their worship
When I demand mine.

I'm interested in what mood is created in the reader's mind by the verse's imagery. If you also happen to have any experience with Noh drama, a comment or two would also be much appreciated. If not, that is fine too as I would welcome all criticisms, be they yay or nay.

Initially, this poem was written so that the speaker's voice was much more pronounced and dare I say aggressive. I softened it somewhat so that the emotion of the verse depends upon the capacity of the person playing the character it is meant to represent. I think the words in this poem work and once the the play is finished I am very much hoping to hear them being spoken live.

I'm loving the possibility to let go wild I hope you don't mind but if you do please do say so and I will revert back to something a little more rational.

Here is my mood:

Physical suffocation through asphyxiation by material oxygenation
This drowned Man on a ever-downward vortex, only to surface
Through Divine decision, on which all sense of self is in constriction
The vortex-acceleration in constant repetition.
Resolute the purpose
It demands aquisition.

Thankyou

I think being slightly unusual is a prerequisite for being normal.
There are God's, then there are slaves. Idolatry has two sides. But in the end, both want respect. awesome piece. Very creative/eccentric.

That is very true. Everyone wants some kind of respect.
