The Lonely Princess

The Lonely Princess

A Poem by Jen Walters

The lonely princess sat in her tower,
Hour after lonely hour.
She knew nothing of generosity,
Four lonely walls were all she could see.

She lit a small fire at night,
By morning it had taken flight.
This sweet princess was dirty and hungry,
But she constantly said a prayer for relief.

She was dressed all in rags from head to toe,
This princess had nowhere to go.
Her mother had trapped her up here in this lonely tower,
For she was too beautiful, like a golden flower.

Then one day did cupid's arrow strike,
It stabbed her like a knife.
For down below with arms open wide,
Was a man of very handsome guise.

She saw her chance at last,
Her lonely tower away she cast.
She got some rats to eat away her chains,
This princess would never live here again.
