The Pit and the Pendulum

The Pit and the Pendulum

A Poem by Jen Walters

I sit in my pit,
Watching the pendulum swing by.
Never asking why.
I sit in my pit.

The pendulum swings back and forth,
Measuring out the time I have left.
Which is leaving me bereft.
Sitting in this pit I am reminded of my life.

My life was so full of strife,
Wasn't much of a life.
More times than not I went astray,
On the righteous path I did not stay.

The pendulum swings on and on,
Marking the time that has gone.
I sit in this pit,
Wondering where I lost my wit.

The joy from my face is no more,
I keep looking at the door.
For you to come swinging in,
For my life to begin.

This reminds me of a scripture, "Harvest time has come and gone, and the summer is over, and we still have not yet been delivered".

I found encouragement in this sad write......we often sit and wait for that pendulum to swing.....it can be mind-numbing at times.....

Though the poem seems to have a sad attire, it reminded me of the time that wont wait for me as I need to look forward towards the door to wait for someone to fill my day. Loved the lines.....You are so good a writer!!!

We had a grandfather clock in the house when I was young.
It not only marked time but also seemed to "tsk, tsk" instead of "tic, toc"
Good poem Jen.

Very sad poem, but well done. A passive non-participant is certain to lose his/her joy and wit. We all go there occasionally, but hopefully we can lift, drag, or claw our way out of the pit.

A powerful yet bittersweet write with a touch of deep despair I feel. Never give up hope for things to change for the better...anything can happen when we get back on that "righteous path!" ~Sharon
