When I LeaveA Poem by Lindsay LukensWhen I fell in love with my Tiger-Man I was living with another man. I used to spend all night with my Tiger and tiptoe out in the predawn. This is that story.
Sometimes while you sleep I hear
You whispering inside my head
And when I shake you out
The static rips open to
Silence.
My digits can’t take it
Clawing, I grasp at you –
Sanctuary within the reach
Of your arms. But you don’t stir
Or even groan from
The grooves my nails tore
In your back. So I turn and think:
When the suns shows, then -
If I can make it to the
Door.
