laughter, blewA Poem by Lindsay LukensThis is a nature poem in stanzas. Its set on the campus of the school in Millidgeville just after a storm on a spring afternoon.
it had rained like the world
would end
and she cursed from cars
to clouds
at the insolence.
when the grays
were gone she cleared the lawn -
wandering toward columns
and lights; she
passed beneath a tent
of trees, blacking sun and sky
and as she walked on, under their blanket,
the boughs laughed –
shaking water from the green
green hair and into hers. and floating
through this patch
of storm, the laughter passed
into her, too,
and she twittered back
into the sunlight.
