Hesitation in Traffic, Church

Hesitation in Traffic, Church

A Poem by Lindsay Lukens
"

Have you ever been commited to someone, but love someone else? Maybe a little funny, more wistful than anything.

"

As the lights flew past me
I actually wondered why I felt so blank,
Then I smiled without laughing and whispered your name.
       Aahhhh, drama –
But don’t go swelling that head,
Then I shook mine and breathed
Not ready.
                    So here am I,
             Alone,
Existing in cold, empty space –
Then I blinked and for three full minutes considered calling
For a playmate.
I held back all that saline threatening to flood,
Not knowing why the urge was so great.
I keep coming back to you!
      Even now:
In this chair, in this noise,
I glaze and sniff and hear
   (in the distance)
the name of the LORD.
Earlier I wished for happiness.
                (and Kenny Holland)
