![]() Diary Inquiry: ShowersA Poem by Skylar LightenI might be enjoying showers for the first time in my life. For the first time in my life, it didn’t feel like a chore, It felt like an escape, a sanctuary, A quiet way to take care of myself, To listen to the rhythm of the water instead of my own restless thoughts. I never understood people who took long showers. You’re wasting water. You’re wasting your time. Just. Get clean. Then get out. No time for indulgence, no need for stillness. But tonight, the water droplets seemed to make sense. Each one fell with a purpose, a rhythm, And for the first time, I didn’t mind letting them stay for a while. The warmth kissed my skin, A gentle reminder that this body deserves kindness too. It helped me stay grounded" Grounded in my own body, A place I hadn’t truly inhabited in a while. The steam swirled around me, Relaxing my mind even if so slightly. I grabbed my iced coffee, Dimmed the lights, Let the room blur into a cocoon of warmth and sound. Classical music played softly in the background, Each note rippling through the haze, Is this what peace feels like? A moment stolen from the rush of life, Where water and music and breath intertwine, Where time stands still, And I finally feel like I belong to myself again?
