Through the roof, through the floor

Through the roof, through the floor

A Poem by Skylar Lighten
"

Unseen cracks, missed chances, and the weight of falling (both literally and metaphorically) while chasing mistakes and struggling to stop before it's too late.

"

You fell through the roof,
Right in front of my eyes.
I watched you, but you didn’t see the hole in the floor,
I didn’t see the hole from below.

Every step of the fall-
I was there,
But I couldn’t catch you.
I couldn't even stop it,
As gravity pulled you down,
As the silence screamed too loud.

I'm blind.
I miss the light,
Stumbling in the dark,
Trying to find a spark
That could light the way.

I’m missing steps,
I’m falling too,
Just like you,
But in different shoes.

I chase the past,
I chase the mistakes,
But I never catch them,
I never make it right.

I should have stopped.
I should have seen.
I should have hit the brakes sooner,
Before this got out of hand,
Before we both hit the ground.

But I didn’t.
I let it slip through my fingers,
Let the cracks widen,
Let the damage linger.

Now, here we are-
Both broken,
Both bleeding,
Both needing a way out,
But maybe it’s too late.

So I’m standing in the wreckage,
Wondering if it’s possible to rebuild,
Or if we’re just…
Too far gone.
