The Last Sip

The Last Sip

A Poem by Skylar Lighten

Only drank martinis when I’m with you,
Yeah, that’s the truth-
But I don’t do that anymore,
Now I just pull right through.
Like a pro, right?
Empty glass, empty heart,
No olives, no fun.
But hey, at least I’m still standing.

Now the martini glass is empty,
Just like all the promises you made me,
And you know what?
I’m kinda proud of that.

I emptied it myself- no need for you to finish it off.
Who knew I'd become such a self-sufficient drinker?

I used to wear those fancy nights like a crown,
Sipping, swirling, acting all profound.
Now I drink my coffee, black as my thoughts,
No more cocktail parties, no more fancy talks.
Funny how a bitter brew suits me just fine,
Less glitter, more grind.

You were the gin, I was the vermouth,
A perfect mix, until I tasted the truth.
And now? Now I’m just the ice-
Cold, and melting slowly, but I’m still here,
I’m still here.

So yeah, martinis? Nah,
I’ll take a shot of sarcasm and a twist of irony,
Sip it slowly, savor the aftertaste.
You know, life's so much better without the glass.
Especially when you realize-
The glass was never full anyway.
