Falling on the edge

Falling on the edge

A Poem by Skylar Lighten

Like a cliff, hanging by a thread
hanging on the edge
one wrong step, we'll fall apart
til gravity crushes my skull
you cling to hope, but love's become a fantasy

I bite through the silence,
rage curling under my breath
you hold your heart like it’s still mine,
but I’m already burning the bridge.

Your hands are full of ash,
you won’t admit it.

Every promise drips like poison,
it feels like we’re drowning
but you call it devotion"
we suffocate in different ways,
yours slow, mine desperate.

The stars are just holes in the sky now,
not signs we’re meant to be.

Love was supposed to save us
but all it does is expose the cracks we ignore.

You fight for the ending you want,
I fight for the ending I need.
Neither of us wins.
