Her Dreams

Her Dreams

A Poem by Skylar Elizabeth
"

A look inside her dreams.

"
Every night as she drifts off to sleep,
She dreams of what she wishes she could be.
She dreamed she was smart.
She dreamed she was pretty.
She dreamed she was skinny.
She dreamed she was everything she thought she was not.
These dreams conquered all her thoughts.
It was she could think about.
All she could dream about.
Everything she could possibly wish for.
It was time to open up the door to reality
And realize that she was indeed-
Smart.
Beautiful.
Skinny.

I really like this poem. At school we did a vote-thing (all-girls school). We were told to close our eyes and the woman conducting the workshop asked us 4 questions, and told us to put up our hands if the answer was yes, and not take it down until the next question was asked:
!. Do you ever feel like you're not good enough? 2. Do you ever feel not pretty enough? 3. Do you ever feel not skinny enough> 4. Do you ever feel just not enough?
She then told us to open our eyes. Every girl had her hand up. Later though, we were told to get into groups and write something nice about each person. It was odd, because although none of us saw ourselves as good enough, everyone else saw us as that. Your poem captures that perfectly. Well done.
