you were luckyA Story by Sky Hawkmy emotions on Peshawar school incidentYou were lucky. You were lucky. Believe me all of you were lucky. What if you died before even knowing what is death. What if you died before even knowing what is …LIFE. You never knew about love, never knew anything about this world. So what……… The light of your life was snubbed even before it could shine. You left your loved ones even before they could see you grow. You left a treasure trove of memories for you loved ones, memories which will make them cry but at the same time will be too precious to let go. But so what……… Still You were lucky. You were lucky because no one …….. and literally no one said that you were worth killing. You died too early to realize what a big achievement this is. If you don’t believe me then go and ask the dead of Hazara Town, the thousands of dead from this war against terror. Go and ask the dead of Gaza. Go and ask the dead of Afghanistan and Iraq. You will find someone who says that those deaths were justified. And I am not talking about “kaffars” either. Nor am I talking about some few demented souls. They all had one faction or other and sometimes whole countries who celebrated their death. You were lucky because no one asked before mourning you who you were. Were you Sunni or Shia? Were you rich or poor? Were you son of a brigadier or of a soldier? You died and showed the world that there is no VIP culture among dead. That all the lines which we use to divide each other are immaterial on the lands of dead. You were lucky that your death jolted our leaders into some action. Attacks on our bases, on our hospitals, on our borders, on our bazaars, on our mosques, on our processions, on our leaders, nothing…… nothing succeeded in making them overcome their fear of enemy (You can take it as greed if you believe the less sinister version that there was a moratorium on hanging due to economic reasons instead of fear.) but believe me you were lucky. But most of all you were lucky that you died before you became dead like rest of us. You see soon we will forget you like all the people who died before you. This jolt of you death which resuscitated the soul of this nation will fade away and we will again go on with our lives. Our lives will again revolve around meaning less talk shows and more meaning less soups. #blackday will soon be replaced by some other up and trending hashtag. The reports of commission made in your name will join the reports of hundreds of such commissions made before. All the political leaders joined together by the shock and awe of your death will soon be using your bodies for political point scoring. IMF may even grant our government another loan to calm their nerves. Until a day will soon come when we would have forgotten all of our rage, all our anguish and all of our resolve which we felt due to this atrocity. But You will still be lucky. You will be still be lucky because soon enough we will again become a nation of the dead. And you will be amongst those few of us who will still be alive. For “Shaheeds” never die and you are the real shaheeds of this nation.
