A Chapter by Brandon Lindström
"

Brief introduction to entire novel.

"
The sun was imperceptible through the thick veil of fuliginous clouds. Ripples aesthetically radiated through the lake, as if a pebble had been tossed in by an unruly child, disrupting the slate of undifferentiated sky and sea. Atop the gritty strand sat a young boy of about fifteen, placidly, yet contemplatively, gazing at the horizon, as if expecting something to ascend from behind the adumbrating line...as if he could sense an impending doom, yet blasé he remained.
Just as the ripples, stoical thoughts flowed through the boy's mind. Each moment he gathered and idea, entertained it, and yet ultimately disengaged it. It then ebbed gradually, fading, as if the ripples had absorbed it. A new one eventually came along, directing itself onto the same path of unreminiscent defeat.'
The unrelenting waves of thoughts kept the boy occupied for hours. As the night drew closer and the sun drew farther, he was awakened from his daydream by a jolt on his left shoulder. He looked up.

Author's Note

Brandon Lindström
Do you think I use a certain phrase such as "as if" or "it" too many times? The first 2 times are supposed to represent a link in the sentence, but the third seems clunky to me. Is it interesting? What genre does it seem like it will open?
