Mirror

A Poem by That One Chick

When I look in the mirror, I see a girl. Brown hair. Plain face. Nothing special. When I look again, I see her eyes. Grey. Empty. Nothing special. I see her mouth. No expression. Nothing special. And I cannot believe that this person I see in the mirror is really me. When I think about who I am as a person and how much I believe in everything around me, I do not see myself this insignificant. Whenever I think about myself, I see me back in 8th grade with my natural long blonde hair and my dog chain around my neck, wearing my favorite t-shirt with a cursing turtle that’s stuck on its back. I see my best friends Tori and Carrie right by my side as I fight emotions. I see all the food fights that made lunch so interesting. I see my friend Skyler doing “the face”. I see my boyfriend hugging me for the first time in the hallways of middle school. I see all the times that I thought for sure this is the end. I see all the times that I realized it wasn’t. Looking in the mirror I see some girl. But inside that girl, lies a person with unlimited power, emotions, and courage. I know that through that ultimate façade I am mighty, and strong. I am more than “nothing special”. I am me. So I break that mirror.  (False Advertising.)
