Chapter Three - Part One

I woke up the next morning with mixed feelings. I was worried about Robbie, and I was happy to be there for Andrea. I was fairly sure that Robbie would be okay, he was a strong person. Nevertheless, I was concerned for my friend.

Andrea was still sleeping, her head on my chest. I wondered what she was dreaming about. I was wide awake, so I gently moved her onto a pillow and got up.

One of my habits is making a good breakfast every morning. Nothing fancy - just eggs, and maybe some sausages or tomato. I get up early just to have a good breakfast. I think it’s important.

This morning I decided to make blueberry pancakes. They were a treat for me, and I hoped it might cheer Andrea up a bit to wake up to the delicious smell. Just as I was having that thought, Andrea walked out.

She had bed hair, and her eyes were smeared with last night’s mascara, but to me she’d never been so beautiful. She smiled slightly as I piled her plate with pancakes and a big scoop of ice-cream, twirling the maple syrup on top.

“I love blueberry pancakes. You must be a mind reader.”

“I’m glad you like them, I’m on the afternoon shift today so I had some extra time.”

Andrea was finished her pancakes in about five minutes. I piled her plate up again and smiled as she dug in hungrily. I was jealous that she could eat so much as stay so shapely.

I heard a tap. At first I didn’t know what it was. It continued a minute later and I realized it was the front door. I walked over and opened it. Standing there was the last person I expected to see.

To be continued…
