KILL IT

KILL IT

A Poem by skin crawler

You came to me happy

With arms open wide

You came to me

Ready

And you came easy and slow

The way you talked and laughed

Flooded my mind

And calmed the storm in my soul

You made it easy to exist

And to dream

And built me up

We laid our dreams in the dirt

As long as you were right there with me.

The love poured out of me like honey

Thick and slow and sweet

And draped itself around every conversation

Adding sweetness to life around me

My lips curled upward and my tongue met teeth

In an attempt to taste the sweetness on my lips

I am smiling again

We’re going to Scandinavia

And Alaska

Really anywhere, together

And for once in my life, talk of the future didn’t drive me away

It pulled me in

Like sinking into a bed or

A warm bath and surrounded me

From the creases on my toes, to my green eyes

That well up with tears of joy when recounting my luck

In finding you

And in you finding me

Even tho this narrator sounds like she's excited for the future, in between the lines, I can feel something like hesitancy & fear, as if she can't quite believe this is true, trying to go forth as if it's possible, ignoring something deep inside that's screaming at her to stop! I actually felt this poem was heading toward some kind of crash, but it ended up being a happy hopeful ending. I love this mish-mash of mixed messages & tangled expectations -- true to real life!
