Denouncing The Power Of Karen DyeA Story by SkibA draft of something I have been working on. I do not know if it will make the cut however I'm putting it out there :)"...Respect? you steal my body, befriend me and now you are asking for my respect?" ...Karen didn't answer, instead she remained silent, allowing Ben to calm down and to reconsider her request. "You want respect..? Ben asked ...And you seek asylum?... he continued But what do I get in return?" Karen raised her eye's to meet his "My undying loyalty!" she said impatiently, not bothering to attempt to mask the sarcasm which swelled in her voice. Ben looked to the floor in disappointment... "I thought I had that once and look where that got me... you made me think that I was dead, you made me think that there wasn't a life worth living, only a life worth plaguing and you were right! There is a life worth plaguing your majesty and that would be yours"... "I Benjamin Rabe grant you Karen Dye, the right of asylum. I also grant you the opportunity to earn my respect by way of The Watchers; you must denounce all and any power you possess until a time where I see fit, that your character has truly been reformed!. Karen began to panic, she wanted to tear the head off of Ben's shoulders themselves!, she searched for an exit but she knew it was in vain. There was only one way out and even if she had the strength to escape, she was outnumbered plain and simple. "...I would happily agree to this little contract Benjamin Karen said cheerfully... However, to truly denounce even a morsel of the power I hold, you would need a Watcher itself and you know as well as I that they all perished to the Amber Tides!." Karen was beginning to feel relaxed again, she was in control, Ben's plan had failed and she was certain that he wasn't nearly as bright to think of a plan B. "You are right! As usual!" Ben grinned. Karen smiled in delight, nodding in agreement. "...But just before the carnage of the Tides, I actually had a similar request to yours, from a Sagittarius watcher who offered me his services in return for sanctuary". "A'mante!" Ben called out. A tall figured approached from the distance, his brown face shaded by a hooded Grey robe. "Power Corrupts, Ms. Dye! and you, yourself have allowed yourself to be corrupted." A'mante said as he advanced on her. The grin on Ben's face was clearly visible to everyone but Karen especially. She was cornered with no other option but to concur to the arrangement and Ben knew it! so he smiled even more "So...Ms.Dye... Will you happily agree now?"... Karen stretched out her arms and smiled. Good boy Benjamin thank you! she walked off, A'mante gripping her arm in escort. where will you put her? Chester sung, his childish tone asking a question which Ben was yet to know the answer to. He hadn't thought of that, even without the magic, Karen could pick a lock and make it look like she was slicing a lemon. Tell Amante to put her in my room until I can think of more suitable lodgings and then tell him I want a word!. Chester nodded and scuttled off. Was Karen a prisoner? Ben didn't know, all he knew was that she was detained and no longer a risk to him or anybody else. the door rattled on its hinged and the letterbox shook, knocking the door was easy but he needed them OUT you have to understand spirits are not all nicey nicey lovey lovey some of them want you dead, because you are alive, becuase you take it for granted and simply because they can. they see you mr reeves and you are blind to them.7 The old mans eyes widened, he groaned, clenching his right fist and grasping at his chest with his left. Ben rushed over to the grey haired man and stabbed an arm into his rib cage. He closed his eyes, focusing on the frequency which he had been able to tap into the night he met Karen, the night he was fooled by a witch with no morals or respect for others. Ben felt his hand reappear, blood spilling over it like warm oil. He searched for the heart, found it and began to massage and squeeze. Reeves regained a brief sense of consciousness but not for long and Ben knew he was losing him. he massaged slightly harder than before in a hypnotic rhythm, just like he had been taught in the first aid classes he was required to attend in order to get the job at Seaview. Reeves sucked in a mouthful of air and exhaled just as quick....he was stable... for now. © 2018 SkibAuthor's Note
