Old FriendA Poem by S. K. Burke
Another 2 AM creeps up,
She rubs her eyes and puts her readings away. The lights flick off and there he is, peering in, Falling in soft streaks across the bed sheets. Was it so long ago that she looked to the same moon Hugging her knees to her chest Muffling sobs and wishing maybe Just maybe She was just as far away? Tonight the moonlight is not a sickly yellow, It is warm and comfortable And he seems somehow fuller, Maybe the distance smaller. Somehow the old friend who used to console her on her loneliest nights Now just smiles back, wishes her goodnight, And falls in beams around her as she finally Finally Sleeps tight. © 2016 S. K.
