Old Friend

Old Friend

A Poem by S. K. Burke

Another 2 AM creeps up,
She rubs her eyes and puts her readings away.
The lights flick off and there he is, peering in,
Falling in soft streaks across the bed sheets.

Was it so long ago that she looked to the same moon
Hugging her knees to her chest
Muffling sobs and wishing maybe
Just maybe
She was just as far away?

Tonight the moonlight is not a sickly yellow,
It is warm and comfortable
And he seems somehow fuller,
Maybe the distance smaller.

Somehow the old friend who used to console her on her loneliest nights
Now just smiles back, wishes her goodnight,
And falls in beams around her as she finally
Finally
Sleeps tight.

A beautiful flow of imagery and ink. It ponders and muses and shares soft moments as a soul transitions from one point in time to another.
I like how it does not weep... rather it takes each moonglow in stride for what it is... a hand on a clock in a world this is always evolving and growing.

Great Ink!

I found this poem filled with soul and emotion. It captures a torturous sort of feeling we have all dealt with from time to time, and twists it into a mood that is tangible. Thanks for sharing this piece with us..

Great Read...
