LessonsA Poem by S. K. Burke
A friend taught me that sometimes, after a few years,
people are bound to lose interest. And usually there are people who would rather move on than hang around trying to fix it. I learned that sometimes I have to deal with being ignored because I'm probably not worth their time. Some guy taught me no one owes an explanation or warning if he wants to use you and then say goodbye. And the pitying eyes of my parents taught me maybe its best to keep things inside. Together with the feigned sympathies of my school counselor, every time he watched me cry. But some friends taught me, not everyone is egomaniacal and there are some who really do care. And if I need help or advice for the rest of my life I know that they'll always be there. And then you, you taught me love doesn't have to be scary I don't have to keep a hand on the door, that sometimes when people say things, they actually mean them And maybe I can trust people more. You taught me other compassionate people still do exist and strange enough, were compassionate for me. And maybe after all,its not all for nothing, if this is how beautiful people can be.
