Steel Steals

A Poem by S. K. Burke

The handle on the subway reminds Minds

me of a noose as it cradles my hand,  and

and as the train departs hearts

I see each independent dependent

stop as a station on

that could have been much more if we didn’t steal steel

and build and kill will

all the beauty that man ever never

came across. Then we arrive, and many any

shove in a rushed whirlwind. wind

To go where? No one’s sure. or

As we go our separate ways in unison sun-

I see a girl on the harp, her music a delight. light

But she doesn’t bother playing over the scraping of steel. feel.

Very nice use of words and thoughts. I liked the train rides. Watching and if lucky. Some conversation. I liked the use of the word "steel'. You gave vision to the reader and left them with something to think about. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Think if I had to ride on the subway, I might feel as you do. I live in the countryside, surrounded by nature, for which I feel blessed. I like the juxtaposition of the two poems. Great writing.
