Holding On

Holding On

A Poem by Nicole Schuster
"

for those who fear losing the fleeting good in their lives

"
I love it here
It feels like home
Even though I'm far from it
It's my safe place
Everything is familiar
I feel so much joy
It's my escape from real life
Where I'm not as happy

It's so much fun
Every second filled with excitement
Not a moment
Or a chance
To be sad or angry
It's incredible

But as my escape is drawing to a close
Fear is creeping back
I'm scared that I'll fall again
When I have to leave
I won't feel the joy
And my pain will return

Even though love is here
I'm afraid that I'll forget
Once I'm gone
I'll forget the things that triggered my smile
That forced out my sorrows
I'm terrified that my first step out of here
Will send me tumbling back down
And I'll slowly drown
All over again

But because of my fear
I'm holding on tight
To these good moments here
Soaking up the feelings
Trying to keep them for later
Trying to make sure I remember
So that once I do go
I'll have something still in my grasp

I love good prose. This is excellent. Your structure and bridging. Give us the development of visuals. Partaking in the image you Jeff behind for us to savor. I'm a new fan
