Gamble Gone Wrong

Gamble Gone Wrong

A Poem by Nicole Schuster
"

sometimes you take a chance. sometimes you fly. and sometimes, you're dropped to the depths of hell

"
I bet everything on this
On us
I thought that we would be enough
A distraction
From my dark side
You would be enough
To pull me out
Into a fantasy
Something I could believe to be my reality
Somewhere it didn't hurt so much
You seemed like you could help
Like you could make things better
As though I could lean on your shoulder
And we could walk together

But you kept me trapped instead
You suffocated me
Playing with my mind and heart
Games I couldn't win
Why would you waste your time
Pretending to help me?
Pretending to help when all you did was
Push me down farther
Deeper into my pain
Into all of the things
That I hoped to escape?
You forced me under
Slammed the door
Closed the lock
And didn't even glance back

Why would you do that to me
Make the cracks bigger
When I had hoped that you would be
The one to seal them
And make them disappear?
I'm just wondering why
You would get my hopes up
Bring in the possibility
Of a bright future
When you knew you wouldn't
Make any effort to help me
Get there?
