Adult's Lies

Adult's Lies

A Poem by Nicole Schuster
"

Too young? Bah

"
Why do people say
"You're too young to be in love"
"You don't know what love is"
Why?

Love isn't something with rules
Not a game
No instructions

Who are you to tell me
What I feel or don't feel
Just because it didn't happen
Or went wrong for you
Doesn't mean
It's not real for me

It's so real
I know what love is
I can't make you understand
Because I would be saying words
That you don't know
It's not something I can explain to you
It's a huge feeling
A consuming emotion
That fills my entire being

Because you're telling me
I don't know what love is
Because I am young
I guess
You haven't felt
The excited, painful, intense
Racing of your hear
A sense of home in one person
A feeling of fullness
Accomplishment
Certainty

Just because you're not certain
Or even if you are
You can't tell me not to feel
You can't
I won't let you
I just don't understand
How am I supposed to be happy
When you want
To take away
The source of my joy?

how we ever survived the warnings of our inevitable mistakes is beyond the comprehension level of those that always seem to know better ... really?

you have struck a nerve with your words so true
