Moonlight SavageryA Poem by Sonia
In the moonlight
fire glows and they dance Circle, circle round shaking their feet and calloused hands They wear their masks as if afraid that the Devil remembers faces Doused in brother-blood and oaths keeping them in their places But Moonlight is a gentle mother who rarely stops their play And so they act hunter and savage until comes Father Day Father Day, he scolds them, and beats them till they're men Who dares cry the crypt chant? Who will savage dance then? But a masking of masks is a faulty seal and Moonlight comes again making her men children letting them play without end.
