The Forest Road

The Forest Road

A Poem by Sonia

The trail was a strange one
An animal, a soul
resided in its gravel,
made its body whole

It began thin and weak,
bordered by young shrubs
Hesitantly carved
Mixed within the mud

It began to grow stronger
as i took my florid steps
The blooming buds hugged the earth
The jungle vines had crept

Then a sharp left and another right
the path began to zig
Wild ferns and silent weeds
shadowed the earthly figs

The trail was dotted with apples
untouched by the ants and birds
Doves, snakes and vultures
gathered in their herds

The crooked road progressed quickly
seeming to get more wild
then came the young trees, spruce and maple
limber as a child

But further on the trees grew
into strong and rooted oaks
Unyielding to the wind and tempest
or termites' gentle coax

And slowly the green leaves turn to brown,
the bark dry and weathered
Birds born from now barren nests
have left behind only feathers

Wild things have left long ago
and now all is gentle and still
A peaceful garden, quaint
and i have traversed the last hill

All settles in a quiet slumber,
the white flowers closed in fragrant sleep
The leaves have fallen, only roots remain
The sky watches, welcoming but bleak

The gravel ends to fog ahead
Yet it is not my time
For I belong in the land of roses
I yet have roots to find

words give meaning to life you give life to words

I love this image of the path as a living thing, growing and becoming, and eventually leading to a place of mystery. Great metaphor for our lives. I saw a beautiful vision as I walked this path you described.

Brilliant! You have some amazinf flora growing together. LOL The trail as a metaphor for life worked very well, and doesn't the path of life zig and zag; the path we thought we were following is not always where we end up wandering.

A amazing poem. The description took me into the forest. Each set of lines making the poem stronger and better.
"then came the young trees, spruce and maple
limber as a child"
You are a excellent writer. The way your words flow make the poetry a pleasure to read. A excellent poem. Thank you.

if i could find two words, it would be epic and classic, and awsome,
o.k three words, but really i could say so much more, what i
enjoyed most, the subtle imagery is dreamy, beauifully done plot
really a lively adventure in words.

"As the gravel fades I am upon the Mist
and it whispers invitingly"

I absolutely love the description in this poem! I can practically imagine this path, the flowers and the leaves on the ground... :) Thanks for sharing
