Narcissus

Narcissus

A Poem by Sonia
"

More old poetry!

"

There once was a God called Narcissus

Who was the fairest God in sight

The girls all loved him

The guys envied him

But the poor God wasn't too bright

One day Narcissus came to

A beautiful mortal city

He walked without fret

Until a girl he met

Who was indeed very pretty

The girl fell in love with the handsome God

And asked for his love in return

But she was a commoner

He too high for her

And so away did Narcissus turn

But what a big mistake he made,

For the girl got very angry

She asked to give him pain

For being so vain

And the Gods up above all agreed

So one day as Narcissus walked by a stream

He happened to see his reflection

In a blink of an eye

He sat down and cried

Overcome with deep affection

He sat there for days, he sat there for nights

Trying to touch the beautiful form

But it waved good-bye

Every time he tried

So he sat there in sun and storm

Eventually Narcissus died

And in his place grew a beautiful flower

And to this day

It grows to say

Of vanity's evil power
