Broken

Broken

A Poem by Sonia

Oh traveler, oh traveler
forsaken in the sand
You walk without a purpose now,
empty stomach, empty hands

The barrenness frightens you
Shelter do you seek
The wolves grow and watch you
remind you that you're weak

With hope on the horizon
you see a distant shimmer
A town or a river perhaps,
What a welcoming glimmer!

A foot, a yard, a mile you go
Your destination far from sight
Suddenly the vision fades
snuffed out like a flickering light

Oh traveler, oh traveler,
How lost do you seem!
Head held low you turn
Empty hopes, empty dreams

And yet, behold! Another vision
upon the pale blue skies
A city awaits with opened arms
You dismiss it with a sigh

You know that foul trick
You've been fooled before
And you still feel the heartbreak
You still feel the sore

Oh traveler, oh traveler
again you depart
you walk without a purpose now
empty spirit, empty heart
