SheepA Poem by SoniaAbout the holocaust
Spring
They herd the timid sheep in one by one The lambs cry out to their lost mothers Rams drop their once proud horns cowering before the Sheppard's mighty stick They become numbers None more important than the next Names and possessions, what place do they have in this wild pasture? Summer The proud and vibrant sun once their friend now scoffs at their meager forms relentlessly scorching their backs while the Sheppards burn it more A world consumed by fire fueled by its own inhabitants Hell surrounds all corners Who can escape the flames? Autumn Hope is only a whispered word Prayers lay forgotten The lambs stopped crying long ago Caring now only for their hearts and stomachs both which never seem full The once proud and healthy flock have wasted away like dust They have been branded and nothing can erase the mark Winter The snow that shines white and crisp a cloud upon the earth now commits its silent crime buts its victims are in short supply and they welcome death All is silent As the last lamb lays in the snow Never to open his eyes again His eternal sleep granting freedom Spring They heard the timid sheep in one by one © 2010 SoniaAuthor's Note
