Are you Listening

Hopefully this poem will make sense! It's also my first poem that doesn't rhyme, so it won't be perfect...

Look at you

You're red in the face

Asking me that same question

You've always asked

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

Now you shout

I guess you feel power

When your voice rules over mine

Just like it always has

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

Fire's in your eyes

It's been there for years

I grows as you look at me now

The way it always does

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

You're out of breath

We hear a moment's peace

But you hate that empty sound

You always have

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

As you scream

You can't hear me mumble

But i don't think you care for my words

You never have

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

Yes, i am

Every single word

Every single lie and every single curse

I'm always listening

 

"Are you listening to me?"

 

But i wish i never did

this reads like a story.

That made perfect sense. I liked it. And don't worry - you don't need to rhyme to write a good poem. Some of the best poems out there have no rhyme scheme at all. : )
