I am

I am

A Poem by Reality
"

The people we see

"

I am that girl – the one you see sitting by herself at a movie, in the restaurant, the library. I am her and she is me. You know her – the one you can find in old bookstores, flipping through romance novels wistfully or sitting in the park with her hands on her knees, hoping someone will sweep her off her feet. You can find her walking in the rain on a sidewalk in the city, or a dirt road in the country – head down low, eyes pointed towards the floor, the weight of the world weighing down her shoulders. You see me, everyday. I am your nurse, the taxi cab driver, the firefighter, the interpreter, the garbage women, the mail carrier, the EMT. You see me don’t you? Do you? Please?
