Chasing leaves in Boston, MAA Poem by sjbrentThe leaves crackle as they race around in the breeze. The last vestige of a fall long departed Now just a few dance amongst the snow Until pressed up against the old clapper board house Hemmed in by porch and history and Heritage. Chasing the leaves along the freedom trail See setlers hemmed in by the British oppressors The triumphant loss at Bunker hill Set in motion historic events A freedom from those they left Yet so much do they carry with them. They can't escape their heritage
Even if they wanted to Which they do Independence is only from polictics But they wish it was from everything That made them who they are. © 2017 sjbrentAuthor's Note
