Sand dunes

Sand dunes

A Poem by sjbrent
"

Sand dunes when you are young and old

"
When you were small and little legs
couldn't carry you fast enough down the sand dunes
and you would eventually fall over yourself
and flip flop down before coming to rest
in a pile of sand and helpless laughter
spitting out sand and shouting, again, again!
and you would carry on duning,
until those little legs were too tired,
to lift you to the top any more.
Now of course, your lanky frame
can take a dune in two or three strides
those massive leaps not quite so high
those grasses not quite high enough to hide behind
but lets cherish childhood for one more day
Lets run down sandy shoots as fast as we can.
falling over at the bottom even though we don't need to
lets be brave again when wiping the sand from between our toes
and leave the grains to be wiped away from your own child's toes
when their little legs will tumble down dunes
and say to you "Dad its really good, come on"
and you will race down sand dunes again.
