cleanliness and its implications on health and hygiene.A Story by donothavespecsbutstillanerdthis is actually a speech on cleanliness and its implications on health and hygiene. this is an important topic. I won the second prize with this speech.CLEANLINESS AND ITS IMPLICATIONS ON HEALTH AND HYGIENE A very good morning to one and all present here. Today I ________ stand before you to share my thoughts on the given topic. Benjamin Disraeli very rightly said, “Cleanliness and order are not matters of instinct; they are a matter of education, and like most great things, you must cultivate a taste for them.” Since a young age we are all told to keep our things neatly, to always keep our surroundings clean, to always keep ourselves clean, this same cleanliness was also supposed to be there in our mind. But what is cleanliness? Oxford dictionary defines it as the state or quality of being clean or being kept clean. Here yet another question arises. Why should we keep clean? The answer is as simple as possible. Cleanliness ensures a good hygiene which ensures great health. In this day and age people are always hustling and bustling with absent minds, littering carelessly and not taking enough care of the environment or themselves. We take a bath at least once every day, we brush, comb our hair, cut our nails etc- all this not only makes us look more presentable but also secures our health in the long run. So we take care of ourselves but what about our surroundings? It is equally important for us to have a clean environment. Unclean areas have a bad odour and attract pests etc- they are unpleasant to look at and also cause harm to the environment. Besides this, in our surroundings, there are millions of tiny little microorganisms. According to the germ theory of disease, these microorganisms are the cause of most diseases. This proves that just by being clean we reduce the risk of being sick or picking up a disease. Clearly, it is very important to have clean habits. The quality of food and the way it's prepared, maintaining high standards of hygiene contributes majorly towards good health of a person or a society. It is also important to maintain cleanliness in our mind. This includes the mind being completely pure and free of dirty and negative thoughts. Keeping the environment, body and mind clean and peaceful is thus complete cleanliness. Cleanliness is not an action, it is a practice that needs to be inculcated in all. Hence the quote, “cleanliness is next to godliness”. I would like to conclude with a short self-made poem: We have but one life, Strive to make it bright. Keep your surroundings neat and clean, And your mind calm and serene. That’s the way to live your life.
