9 ~ And Why Am I In This Mess Again?A Chapter by Felicity's EveReady to see the whole fight between Ethan and Amoro? And what is Zedvara like? You're about to find out! ;) Please check out the Author's Note when you finish reading. :)“I’m your bodyguard, remember? Leave this to me,” Ethan says reassuringly, winking at me and giving me a sly smile after he begins walking towards a sneering Amoro.
Ethan picks up the pace until he is running towards my possible fiancée, shouting a battle cry.
Amoro’s x-shaped weapon is called Hakuzu and I can only hope that Scyrath can stand up to it, especially now that Amoro is Infused.
I stand by as Ethan and Amoro duke it out. Weapons are clashing, punches are flying and insults are ringing through the forest.
Why did Ethan lie? What is the reason for his wanting to protect me? Does he even care that if Amoro gets the upper hand, even for a moment, he is done for? What do I do to stop them?
My head snaps up as I hear a crack and see Ethan being shoved up against a tree.
He manages to get Amoro off of him and bound up and onto a high, sturdy branch of the tree, only to leap down again with Scyrath in a sword form to attempt to knock Amoro off-balance.
Amoro leaps backwards out of Ethan’s way and Ethan lands gracefully on his feet, an Estius’s cat-like reflexes coming in handy.
Amoro takes advantage of the moment Ethan is on the ground and tries to strike him with Hakuzu. Ethan rolls out of the way and leaps to his feet, immediately retaliating with a slash to Amoro’s left bat wing.
I wince. The battle continues to increase in intensity and soon drops of crimson are falling to the ground, Amoro and Ethan’s blood.
Stop.
“Stop,” I whisper. I sharply shake my head and grab the Athvor.
“Stop it, you two idiots!” I scream.
“Star, stay out of this!” Ethan demands as he narrowly misses a glowing Hakuzu. Amoro’s bat wings have been serving him well, but Amoro and Ethan are still evenly matched.
Kind of… Amoro could still crush him. Erselva can do nothing but stand by, her body giving off a dark aura, and lend her master her power.
“Please, Ava, do not get yourself hurt!” Amoro adds, attempting to shoot Ethan with a crossbow-Hakuzu.
No, it cannot go on like this, I think to myself and begin running towards Erselva. Amoro’s bat-winged cat might just be the key to stop the two boys from killing each other.
One of my abnormal powers that only I am in possession of is Infusing with certain demon types.
What if I steal Amoro’s Infusion from him?
But I haven’t had the chance to test that out yet. But I am also able to turn an Estius’s or Elcos’s power against them…
I reach Erselva, who, despite our friendship, cannot betray her master, Amoro. She begins to snarl and lowers her head to hide her neck and her charm. That is my target.
“Please, Erselva. There’s a nice kitty,” I murmur soothingly and stretch out my hand to her. I focus all of my energy into tapping into her inner self, calming her spirit and making an Elcos-to-demon connection.
She relaxes and lifts her head obediently. I hear Ethan’s cry of pain behind me and quickly transform.
I take the Athvor and hold it to Erselva’s charm. Slowly, but gaining speed, I transfer the power from the Infusion to my de-transformed weapon. Erselva shrinks until she is normal size once again. The freakishly large fangs and claws disappear and the glow from her eyes and charm fades until it is non-existent.
The Athvor is now glowing red and I begin to purify the power, an ability of mine that I have recently discovered and have been working on perfecting. But this is not a practice session. No, this is the real deal.
I turn and look up. Amoro is hovering high above Ethan and they are both basically trying to shoot each other. Perfect.
Immature fools, I think to myself and roll my eyes.
I then smirk as Amoro’s wings begin to fade away, faster and faster as my purifying powers really start to go into overdrive.
He plummets towards the ground with a shout of surprise and doesn’t manage to land on his feet. He skids backwards a ways and struggles to arise from the dusty ground of the Copper Creek horse trail.
Ethan sees his chance and attempts to take it, readying Scyrath to finish off Amoro with an anti-demon bullet from his Scyrath-gun.
“Don’t! Ethan!” I call and grab the collar of his vest before shoving him roughly to the side.
Amoro tries to shoot Ethan but I fling myself in front of him and absorb Amoro’s power into Athvor.
I turn it into a rifle before shooting Amoro with his own power. He manages to dodge it by lurching to the side.
Ethan arises and tries once more to shoot Amoro but his plan is interrupted when I kick his Scyrath-gun out of his hand, causing it to fly into the air, before I catch it from behind with ease. I throw Scyrath, de-transformed, down to the ground next to him and he gives me an indignant look, his blood dripping to the ground. But now that they have stopped going at it like crazed dogs, Ethan and Amoro’s bodies are slowly beginning to heal themselves.
Erselva runs to her master, mewing and purring, and leaps into his arms. Amoro rubs his cheek against her head for a moment; he has always had a soft spot for animals, cats especially.
“Please. Stop this nonsense! I am sorry Amoro, but I cannot marry you. Neither side treats me any better than the other, I will admit, but my place is with the Estiuses. Maybe I would like to be an Elcos, but you use your demons for the wrong reasons, I am sorry to say. And Estiuses can be too superior sometimes, but I feel that I fit in a little bit more with them. In my opinion, there is not a good side, though. I must not accept. Now, please take me to Zedvara. I have some things I need to work out with her,” I say, exhaustion painting my tone.
“Then it appears that I have won,” says Ethan triumphantly, picking himself up from the ground and coming to stand beside me.
“Don’t start, Ethan! You are so lucky that I brought Amoro down when I did. Otherwise, you’d be in pieces. Now, let’s just go,” I say and we both de-transform.
Amoro reverses the soundproofing spell and opens a portal to the Estius and Elcos Counsel Room. It is better to speak to both sides at the same time.
“Oh, and Ethan? You have more wounds than Amoro. I can tell because you are taking longer to heal. So, in truth, Amoro is the winner here.” I put it bluntly.
“Why are you taking his side?!”
“Quit your whining and let’s go.”

Two ornate thrones are sitting next to each other in the Counsel Room of the two races. Other smaller chairs are in a line next to each throne. On one side sits the Estius Counsel; and on the other, the Elcos Counsel. On the two thrones in the middle sit the High Councilmen, Zedvara, the High Elcos; and Arcostal, the High Estius.
They all wear the robes of Councilmen, the woman’s garments being more feminine. The clothes are decorated with that Estius’s or Elcos’s signature colors and symbol. Each Elcos has their small demon-pet on their shoulder and every Estius and Elcos has their de-transformed weapon at their decorated belts.
Zedvara, her silver and gold curls piled on top of her head in a sophisticated fashion, smiles brightly and her fuchsia eyes light up when I walk into the room.
Arcostal possesses long locks of hair that has multiple shades of green coloring them. His bronze eyes appear to reflect boredom. They light up, considerably, soon enough, though, when we walk into the cavernous, white-marble room.
“Ava! You look as stunning as ever! Do come in, darling, and bring your fiancée and your, um, partner with you,” Zedvara almost squeals, her voice sinisterly chipper, as always. Though I notice the disgust in her voice and glint in her eyes when she indicates Ethan.
“That is what I have come to speak with you about, Zedvara,” I say evenly, allowing my born-to-be-mature-Estius side to shine through.
“You’ve come to decline the offer, I know. But, unfortunately, I cannot let you go just like that my sweet pet,” Zedvara says and snaps her fingers on the word “that”.
Crazy, sinister, sickly-sweet, likes to stick her nose into other people’s business, maddening pest of a freaking-
“Now, I have a deal for you,” Zedvara, the object of my ugly synonyms, interrupts my thoughts.
Amoro and Ethan have been silent this whole time, and apparently aiming to burn holes into each other’s heads, what with them staring at each other the way that they are.
“We have discussed this, 5617,” Arcostal begins, his deep voice low and brooding, “And after some careful thinking, we have decided that the choice of where your allegiance belongs will be yours. But we shall give you some help in making it.”
“The marriage proposal still stands. But if an Estius is willing to fight to keep you on there side, that is a major game-changer. Amoro, you are to try to convince her to marry you, if you are still willing, and Ethan is to fight you to keep Miss Ava on his side. Whoever wins will decide your future, sweetest Ava. Fight well, Amoro. Arcostal and I have disagreed on the fact that Ava should be allowed to look deeper into her heritage. But I believe that it would be a fascinating experience for her and an excellent advantage to us,” Zedvara purrs.
“You shall regret it deeply, Zedvara, when she uses her new knowledge against you. You may call me a fool, but I am smarter than you’ll ever be,” Arcostal argues.
“She would be under close surveillance, silly! Oh, Ava, I have made you the most darling underground home in the forest. Amoro will show it to you later, I’m sure. I’d hate for you to be uncomfortable and-”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa lady. Now how is it Star’s decision if Amoro and I are to be used to make it?” Ethan interrupts the High Elcos in a snappish voice and I resist the urge to turn around and kick him where it really hurts.
Stupid! Don’t ask questions! I scream in frustration at him in my mind.
“Because, she is allowed to change her mind and agree to marry Amoro at any moment. And her name is Ava!” Zedvara growls.
“Yes to the explanation and no to the name. It is 5617 and that is final!” Arcostal retorts.
“Whatever! Now Ava, are you willing to go through with this bodyguard plan, or have you decided to accept Amoro’s proposal? I for one think that you would come to love Amoro if you just think of some things that you like about him,” Zedvara says sweetly, giving me a wink.
“Oh, I do have something you like about me,” Amoro purrs and before I can react, Amoro places his arm around my waist and his hand at the back of my head as his lips press against mine in a gentle but firm kiss.
I hear sighs, most likely from the Elcoses, and retching sounds that are from the Estiuses in all probability. Someone is squealing happily and clapping their hands. I’d bet one anything that it’s Zedvara.
I try to shove back, managing to break away from Amoro for a second and gasp before he kisses me again, more demanding this time.
I push against him with all of my
might before finally escaping his grasp.
Ethan is already standing in front of me and shoves me behind him once again, but this time I cannot keep my balance and end up falling to the cold floor.
I shake my head and spring to my feet, grabbing Athvor.
Ethan gives me a concerned look but I shake my head.
“J-just get busy and do your job,” I demand, but it sounds more like pleading.
I sound weak, helpless. My voice is barely above a whisper and I feel like nothing more than a frail little girl.
This isn’t me. I never wanted this. I never…
Suddenly, I am practically burning with fury.
“I…never…” I whisper and then I turn and run out of the Counsel Room, through the entryway, down the stairs and into the night, gripping my weapon tightly.
I don’t care that I have just seriously disrespected the Councilmen. I don’t care that I have no clue where I am going. It had better just be far from here.
Tears begin to stream down my cheeks without relent and I wipe away at them furiously. I have always shared in the belief that it is healthy to cry, but I do not want to appear pathetic.
Stupid Amoro. Stupid parents. Stupid Ethan for that matter! If he hadn’t decided to be my “bodyguard”, the Estiuses wouldn’t have taken that idea to heart and I wouldn’t be in this mess!
I could’ve dealt with that repulsive-minded Amoro by myself, anyway!
What, I’m a girl so I can’t fight? I had been living on the streets for five freaking years, incase Ethan forgot!
“Argh! Amoro you are such a jerk! And Ethan, you are so sexist! ” I scream aloud.
If I wouldn’t be executed on the spot, I would’ve killed the entire Estius and Elcos Counsels in five seconds flat!
I cannot believe my parents would do something so utterly wrong! I am a freak. A freak that would only be used to make the Estiuses and Elcoses look good. I am nothing but a weapon to them.
When I find my mother, I swear she is in for a world of pain.
And that is when I look around to see where I am…
It is the vast flower garden that is in front of the Counsel Room. The garden is divided in two, one side belonging to the Estiuses and the other to the Elcoses.
Well, if they can share a Counsel Room they can surely share a garden, right?
I am not sure whose side I am in and the moon is hidden in the overcast night sky.
There are plenty of fancy lanterns and such, this is a very posh garden, but I am not sure how to find my way out.
That’s what you get for being stupid, Starshine, I scold myself mentally.
That is when I hear a rustle in the finely trimmed bushes next to me.
“No, no it cannot be you! It just can’t! I…I…” I hear a female voice whisper in distress.
Then a girl, who looks to be my age, steps out from behind the bushes.
Her light pink hair is tied up in two high twin-tails with black ribbon. I notice that her bangs are tipped in light blue.
Her eyes are the same color of blue and I can see the sadness in them, the inner turmoil. She looks as if she is about to burst into tears at any moment.
From her aura and the rabbit-like demon pet at her side, she is clearly an Elcos.
“I’m sorry, I’m so, so sorry,” she whimpers before taking her de-transformed weapon, I cannot see the shape but she is wearing a light-blue choker with a black and pink playing-card spade charm so I can guess, and turns it into an impressive spear.
“Wait…what are you…?” I trail off.
“I’m sorry!” she cries out again in anguish and lunges for me. © 2013 Felicity's EveAuthor's Note
