Autumn Leaf

Autumn Leaf

I was startled by the tumbling leaf

As it passed in range of my peripheral vision.

It was yellow, charred with red;

Like a tiny wisp of flame falling from the sky.

It startled me, not because of surprise,

But because a brief moment I could not recognize it.

Such a simplistic object; a birch leaf in the middle of fall,

But I had lost my ability to identify.

My eyelids droop and my reflexes slow,

My motor capabilities are utterly compromised.

No rest, they say, can dull the senses and cloud the mind,

But I feel as if my mind is in overdrive.

It compensates for my lack of sleep

By adding dreams to my daily routine.

Such reality so skewed that an eye could mistake

A harmless, yellow, charred with red

Birch leaf that happened to tumble by my head.

I hate you *sigh* It's unfair you are able to write like this. It's in my favourites, need I say more?

It compensates for my lack of sleep
By adding dreams to my daily routine
- How utterfly Beautiful.
