Should've Listened

Should've Listened

A Poem by Hannah Berry

"Fix me" she cries out

at 2 a.m. when the rest of the world

is silent

“Hold me” she cries out

in an empty room where only the

walls

can hear her plea

“Love me” she cries out

while people embrace each other

and drown

her out with their full-hearted laughs

“Listen to me” she cries out in a

world so cold

so cold, it rocks her to sleep

and those who didn’t listen, those

who

didn’t love, those who didn’t

comfort, and

those who didn’t help

are the ones crying out

“Forgive me”

but it’s

too

late.

That was kind of bone chilling. True though, in most cases of suicide. The person who is struggling reaches out, makes subtle hints, hoping anyone will notice, but the people around them just ignore them. Then when it's too late, they wonder why/how it got to that point the person got to that point without even thinking of their actions. Relatable too to those who have ever felt an unbearable sadness. Nice job.
