NebraskaA Poem by Aila
Nebraska is green
Like my mother's eyes in the sun She says this place feels like childhood, and for a moment childhood is not over Will you take me back there someday? Nebraska is green Like the sweater you left in the classroom I pictured myself wearing it, and for a moment I'm still in middle school Will you buy me another one someday? Nebraska is green Like the cover of my favorite Smiths record They dwell on things like I do, and for a moment I don't feel alone in it all Will you listen with me someday? Colorado is brown The buildings are all the same The politicians are all insane Colorado is where I live but it does not feel like home Nebraska is so green but it does not feel like home I wonder where I'll be complete I wonder if it'll be with you Will you build us a home someday? © 2024 AilaAuthor's Note
