You Don't Know Me

You Don't Know Me

A Poem by William
"

"Never in my life have I seen someone so ignorant to the damage he has done. You're the rotted root in the family tree."

"

x. You,

there’s no words to describe how i hate you.

you,

       who have ruined my life

       have destroyed my family,

       and broken us down.

i loathe you.

i detest you.

you,

        think you own me,

        think you’ve cared enough,

        think you know me.

you don’t know me at all.

you,

        were supposed to protect me,

        were supposed to love me,

        were supposed to raise me.

you have failed.

you have failed me.

you have failed us all.

you are no father.

you are only the man

who has shattered my childhood.

i hate you

because i can’t hate you.

what hurts is that you do try

that you have tried.

that you’ve stopped trying.

what hurts is how you’ve broken her,

the woman who was once so strong.

what hurts is that you pretend so easily,

that we love each other,

that everything is normal.

what hurts is that you think i’m okay,

with everything you’ve done,

all the hate you’ve forced into us.

what hurts is how tired we are,

how we want to stop trying.

[how we’ve stopped trying.]

what hurts is that you won’t let me

let go of the childish hope

that you will take care of me again.

what hurts is that

you’re not there

even when you’re here.

you are not my father.

you are only the man

who taught me how to hate.

[what hurts is that

i know, i know, i know,

it’s not supposed to be like this.

what hurts is that

you, the one who was supposed to protect me,

are the one who has broken me.

what hurts is that you

who were supposed to teach me love

taught me to hate,

and for that, i can’t forgive you.]

'I hate you because I can't hate you'

Every inch of this, I feel your frustration. In return, the emotion allows us to write at our best. Every thought about it is 'down' and that my dear, is when you truly are able to write with such passion. So much beauty in pain.

I can relate to the pain and feelings reflected in this poem. It was heartbreaking to read has I've experienced what its like to see my own family split up. A powerful piece. Which I'm sure many will relate to in some ways. The structure and wording are interesting and different and they add to the poem's effect.

I feel your frustration, and I hope that you can work through your problems. Was this stream of conscious writing? I think that it is a good method to purge any negative feelings that have been building up.

Sorry to disagree with you trishalvarma, but I think this is just perfect. That's all I have to say, perfect.

This is very long for a poetry. I would suggest taking out the lines that are unnecessary. Other than that you are good.

This heart wrenching. I hope it helped just a bit to purge your feelings into ink. The sad part is that in some respects or another it is the reality for many of us readers.

Ouch, I can relate to this one. Again, powerful words brought together in a beautiful way.

The most stand-out parts for me were:
"what hurts is that you do try― / that you have tried. / that you’ve stopped trying." and "you are no father. / you are only the man / who has shattered my childhood."

Good. A deeply felt poem.
'you the one who was supposed to protect me
are the one who has broken me'
was awesome.
