Never Forget

"Love is a growing up,"
That's the story of my heart.
You can say 'I love you' to anyone you see,
But to mean it, you must feel the pain of being apart.
You can't give it away like candy to a child,
You must save it for when you need it most.
It's not a toy, or just a new car to drive,
You must feel the pain of being cut like a roast.

No love is not that easy,
It's sad to say but true.
It involves much pain and sorrow of the heart,
It involves just more than them and you.
Your heart must ache and stop at the same time,
It must scream and laugh all at once.
My heart has felt that way before,
Everything hit me in one pounce.

I never forgot that feeling of hurt,
Of joy, or fear, or hate.
The feeling never leaves you after your first time,
The feeling will haunt you for the rest of your life, you think it will leave but it can't.
You'll cry at night hoping it will leave you alone,
You sob that it will go.
You scream into pillows because the pain is too much,
Really, you just can't face being alone.
