Words and Poets

Words and Poets

A Poem by Remanence
"

A reflection upon all who write poetry.

"
"Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body"  Proverbs 16:24 ESV

The words of poets,
are sifted and sorted
from their language
until they meld into
just the right combination
of that which the heart demands
and of which truth requires.

Crafting poetry is an all-consuming
quest and companion,
one that prevails above
all distractions and one which
separates the poet from
earthbound traditions
and shallow understandings.

Should it be your fate
to craft verses of poetry,
you shall find yourself withdrawn
into creativity and quite apart
from the normal life around you,
because life has chosen you
for the task of inspiring others
to look outward from themselves
to the truths within well-crafted verse
and to their own expressions yet to be.

If I were asked how to become a better poet, I would say it's essential to unplug from everything, especially one's attachment to grinding on daily crap. When I write, I am so far beyond whatever's happening here on earth, I forget what day it is & have no idea of the time when I emerge from a writing cocoon. You've done a delicious job of describing this altered state, but almost as a warning, rather than identifying this as where a writer needs to be! I never thought I would see someone able to quote the Bible & find passages every bit as enjoyable to me as Thoreau & Rumi! Bravo for finding the poetic beauty of speaking thru imagery in the Bible! Merry Christmas! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

You have described perfectly the island of creativity I find myself on when crafting poetry. Physically I may be with others, but mentally I am isolated in a sea of ideas. Withdrawn and all consuming in my search for wording. These stanzas are wonderful Watercress. .

I have had 50 years now of this life apart.
This poem hits a nerve...and being separated from "shallow understandings"---
I am okay with that...although I think understanding reaches many levels and needs.
Really excellent poem, Watercress...

Truer more beautiful words were never written. This speaks to me in ways you couldn't imagine. I love to write and find myself alone and withdrawn until that poem is finally released!
