Son of the Sagittary: a poem by F.G. Franklin
copyright 2007 by F.G. Franklin
Father Centaurus gave us life; the hated son of Ixion
Magnesian Mares he took to wife and we are now his sons
The great god Dionysus has given us a sign
The grapes of wrath are ours to taste and trample into wine
I stretch my bow, draw tight the string, and let the arrow fly
A mighty war horse; dread of kings, a fearsome warrior, I
It may be said I like my wine and adore the handsome fillies
Like wise Chiron of olden times who taught the brave Achilles
Immortal of the centaurs, he is now wrapped in constellation
Wounded by great Heracles, much to his consternation
Noble Sagittarians born beneath his starry sign
Still heal the world with art and words as sweet as flowing wine
I paw my hoof against the ground of injustice, pain and fear
And make Chiron my mentor for my centaur blood is dear
I raise my head and toss my mane with a whip of my gallant tail
May the Sagittary spirit remain and bold centaurs prevail
I have always loved the myth of the centaur. Your poem takes us to the clouds and the stars.
If you want to hear another poem taken from a centaur's point of view check out the song 'Centaur' by Buck 65 (if you haven't already). NH
Sylvia, this is so beautiful and so is reading you again.. love the reference to the planets and the myth of the Centaur.. maybe not a myth , who knows? love this ..
I read the sad news from Orlando. This is a lovingly romantic poem that definately conjures up ideas of being one with a horse. I believe I have a Roger Daltery LP with him on the front cover depicting the same scene as your picture above.
Have missed your work.
ACHTUNG! Fair warning!!!!!!
Sorry, folks ....
I tried. I really did ....to start spending time here, to start writing and reading here again ... But I simply couldnt bring back the old spirit o.. more..
