the wind chimes played there music as i sat at the porch the sun hot in the Arizona sky i watched the desert trees blow back and forth as thoughts of you kept creeping back in to view like a movie stuck on repeat , i couldn't get rid of it, a lizard passes by he keeps his feet moving quick to keep them from burning stooping under rocks to cool its dry sizzling body. I wounder what hes thinking , if it thinks. Something so small yet for some reason more resourceful then any of the other animals in this hot merciless terrain. I remember you used to say you would come back as one , a lizard and just hang by the water beds made by the monsoon rains, i loved hearing you say that (i laugh out loud) i watch as doobie runs out to catch the lizard but its faster then the small mutt and quickly hides again the mutt lays in the dirt panting at the heat of the sun and waits for the lizard. His White fur and brown spots make him look like a cow i always said we should have named him vaka which is Spanish for cow , he watches as the lizard peeks out of the rock , he sits still watching intensely like a lion stalking its pray. The chimes sing a tune with the new breeze ,doobie looks up and Misses the lizard running away to safety the dog is panting harder now the sun is hot he comes to the porch and drinks from his bole ,the day is hot like always but so silent so noiseless other then the wind chimes which keep it from being oddly erie birds chirp and again doobie takes off running after another impossible hunt, i close my eyes and feel the wind against me i know your out there i feel it but y wont you come home. inside the house the lovely wood Flore and grape design every were memorys the table with its marble edge finish you loved that table i sit down and lay my head on the cool marble edge the way you would on hot days like this. Inside its nice and cool the girls are sleeping they look so much like you the youngest talks like you always arguing always complaining the oldest is like me ornery always fighting a losing battle even when the battle was lost she has your eyes and small almost noticeable lisp i walk out again and hear a car pass on the dirt rode hoping its a letter from you. Why did you go? why not me? The war has taken much from me but more from your girls. i hear a scream the girls are up until tomorrow my love i will wait for a letter for ever if i have to. i walk inside and out of the Arizona heat.
