Lanterns

Lanterns

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

My English final sonnet. Hurray!

"
A woman walked into a forest deep,
Transfixed by moon and song and blossoms bright,
But when the moonlight failed in midnight sleep,
She lost her way, bereft of path or light.
A world away in other night-draped dells,
A lantern-laden maid strode forth to see
That same night spell of moon and glow and bells,
But let her lantern guide her back safely.
Though high and pale, the fire of the moon
Has never been a steady path to grace.
Its flick'ring trails ensnare us all too soon
But cannot take us from that hidden place.
Instead, put faith in lanterns close and true.
Their light is warm to keep and comfort you.
