The Mirror

The Mirror

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

No earthly idea where this came from, and it's a work-in-progress, but... Here it is. It started with a quirky idea about combining depth and height, and in the end sort turned into a description of the Goddess...

"

 Through ancient, branching starlight realms,

in waters held on high,

the heavens find their deepest home

in mirrors of the sky.

For what on earth is deeper still

than starry skies themselves?

The Mirror's pool goes on and on

to pits where no light delves.

A paradox, through strange indeed,

shows perfect symmetry.

The stars above and stars below

glow forth from glassy seas.

This deepest depth at highest peak

no mortals' eyes have seen.

For who would dare look straight upon

the eyes of Heaven's Queen?
