DogsA Poem by Justin TobeyThis is for our two dogs, Buddy, who we've had for three years, and Tobi, who we just got.Dark, stormy gray streaks of fur are crowned by a black strip across the back. golden-brown eyes take in light and bend it, sending it forth with every shake of his head.
His faded red collar jingles with every step, the engraved word, "Buddy," flickering in the sun. His floppy ears, half up, half down, perk up with every distant noise in excitement.

Jet black, soft fur runs along her body in a fluffy, luxurious coat of joy. Her smooth head bobs up and down as her curious gaze scans the room.
Tiny, dark paws trip over themselves in her rush to explore her new surroundings. Week-old eyes of deep, deep brown glow with purity, innocence, and joy.

Love and fascination bind these two in complex patterns of the world. Though they are unique in body, mind, and spirit, their purity, curiosity, and intense compassion make them more alike than any two human beings ever could be. © 2008 Justin TobeyAuthor's Note
