The Music of Water

The Music of Water

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I had this huge build up of inspiration, and this was the only subject I could think of that would help me release it. The subject is a little bit forced, but it was a great release that I don't regret writing. I hope you enjoy!

"

Trickling, splashing droplets

cascade downward in a crystalline path to destiny.

The smooth, flowing rhythm

of the unstoppable, emotional force

defies all musical reason, and yet

it sings with the bubbly voice

of a million golden harps.

It can roar unconditionally

in surging, crashing waves,

sweeping helpless victims off their feet,

sometimes caressing, sometimes supressing.

It will flow tranquilly

as a translucent wall of glass,

revealing and distorting

the wonders behind its window.

And, on the rare, magical night,

it will whisper harmonic, echoing chords

in the form of mist-filled maidens,

dancing to their eternal song

in the shimmering light of the stars.

I love this poem and the subject matter. Water is a beautiful thing and a great subject to write about and you've captured the beauty in the music it does make, but we rarely listen to it.

I never thought of it this way before but yes the sound of the rivers and the oceans, the lakes and the seas, make beautiful music. A lovely poem, well written. Thank you for sharing. Debileah

You have captured so well the music of water with this lovely poem full of wonderful descriptive images. This poem is alive as it trickles and splashes, sings and roars. This poem is a sensory delight!

This is truly beautiful. A beautifully controlled write mirrored in the flow of water's music. Kudos.

Justin, you presented a really nice job creating a metaphysical moment- describing the harmonics
wonderment of flow- transending melodies- the soul song of a poet- entwining emotional release
with conviction- magical words reveal in reflection- and that being an image of the muse flowing
through the pen with classic example- makes the reader feel like they are walking through a dream,
Brilliantly composed with those details that bring light to darkness, like looking into the skies of eternity

And, on the rare, magical night,
it will whisper harmonic, echoing chords
in the form of mist-filled maidens,
dancing to their eternal song
in the shimmering light of the stars

Very lovely. It made me think of a little poem I wrote yesterday

The winds ride the ripples and rapids of destiny
carrying me along.
Spawn of God a float on the waters of life....
born of a holy wish,
carried along by the music of Its breath.
