Wisdom

Wisdom

A Poem by Justin Tobey
"

I found the inspiration for this poem while I was in the car with my Jido (grandpa), talking about my dad, uncle, and aunt as children.

"

Wisdom overflows,

One story at a time.

As the shoreline flies,

Knowledge and experiences

Flow in a circuit of peace.

Not just words,

But intricate feelings:

A warm, pulsing tingle

In the back of my head

Spreads across with
Each syllable of the story.

Sometimes they aren't educated,

Even literate, but inside

They have the experiences

Of a thousand average lives.

Not always old on the outside,

But inside, they carry an ancient soul.

A special light in their eyes

Or mirth in their smile

Only shows a glimpse

Of the inner strength, power

Flowing within.

Ah, this is lovely, Justin. Although I am pro education, I am also a true believer that with experience brings wisdom, and no matter how much education one may have... it means nil without wisdom.

I love the stories that only our elders can tell...

This is a wonderfully written piece Justin! Great work!

Well Justin,

you have put the same thoughts I have in better words here. This is a very good piece, calming.

Good choice of words, good form, good flow, well imparted message.

A very good piece.

Lovely poem - one correction I think is that you mean to say 'one' in the second line instead of once...however this is very telling about the wisdom of the ages no matter how they come by it you have captured that essence. Thank you.

Siddartha

Great job, when I read it, I feel like their's an inner meaning to it and I should read it again, because at first it seems like words put together in strange stanzas (not in a bad way). I love the line "But inside, they carry an ancient soul," the way you put it means the most. Awesome!

Hi Justin - A wonderful piece about acknowledging what should be learned from others - especially family.

Two minor points - Line 2: Once....One
Line 3: flies........flys

wonderful stanza! speaks true of wisdom, that we may find in anyone despite of their age, social status kind of education and overall appearances...

i love this poem, it opens eyes to what wisdom really means (wisdom isn't solely learned from school, but in life experiences as well! )

great writing!
